Garrett Drinking a Slurpee (1989 - 2019)
La Jolla, California ~ 2014
Oil on Canvas
30" x 24"
Garrett Baumann has NF2. NF causes benign tumors to grow on various nerves throughout my body. People with NF2 always have these tumors on both the left and right vestibular nerves. The vestibular nerve is part of the acoustic nerve so they usually have little or no hearing. Garrett has no hearing on his right side and only 50 percent hearing on his left side. Garrett has several tumors in his brain and dozens of tumors up and down his spine. He also has these tumors on my arms, neck, side, and back.

Because of so many surgeries and continuing seizures, this cherry slurpee was the first drink Garrett was able to drink unassisted without the use of the tracheal tube in over two years. From that time, NF has continually and rapidly deterioted his body.

As of August 2014, his doctors have finally recommended his family to arrange hospice care while they continue to administer more pain killers. Garrett is only 24 years old. His family asks for your prayers.
