Dorothy Enjoying Reggie's Sweet Potato Pie (1936 - 2021)
Houston, Texas ~ 2020
Oil on Canvas
30" x 24"
Dorothy Bibbs is Reggie Bibbs’s mother. (Reggie was the first oil painting I did in 2012.) Born in Marshall, Texas Dorothy moved to Houston at the age of three. She is the youngest in her family and did not know she had NF until her youngest son Reggie was diagnosed. Her NF was caused by a spontaneous gene mutation as no one else in her family has it. She did not even realize she had NF until Reggie was born as she had no real signs or symptoms growing up.

Dorothy has two daughters and four sons, two of the sons have sadly already passed away. Only two of the boys did not have NF. Years ago, Dorothy worked at a computer manufacturing company and after that she worked at a company that made equipment that tested for minerals in the soil for oil wells. Later on she went into patient care for the elderly. She is now retired and enjoying life with her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy’s past time love is the art of baking. For as long as her son Reggie can remember she has been baking delicious desserts and as a child he had a watchful eye. She passed this love on to him and now gets to enjoys his baking prowess. Reggie not enjoys baking her favorite deserts which include both carrot cake and sweet potato pie to name a few, he always saves her the first piece for!
